Malaysia, 15 September 2026 — Students from the Nahdlatul Ulama University Makhdum Ibrahim Tuban (UNUMA Tuban), who are currently undertaking an International Collaborative Community Service Programme (KKN) in Malaysia, attended a meeting with the Special Branch Executive Committee of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCINU) Malaysia and Kiai Haji Mustain Syafi’i, a member of the management of the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School in Jombang. The event took place at the PCINU Malaysia office on Monday (15 September 2026). This meeting proved to be a significant experience for the students during their International Community Service Programme. As well as providing an opportunity to foster closer ties, the event also served as a learning opportunity for the students to gain insights into Islamic boarding schools, education, da’wah and NU values from figures with experience in these fields. On that occasion, Kiai Haji Mustain Syafi’i addressed the students, emphasising the importance of patience and sincerity in carrying out da’wah and khidmah. “To sustain NU and spread the message of Islam, we must be patient and sincere.” The message emphasises that the processes of da’wah and community service do not always yield immediately visible results. Therefore, patience is required in undertaking each process, as well as sincerity in bringing benefit to the community. For UNUMA Tuban students, this message served as an important point of reflection whilst undertaking their Community Service Programme (KKN) in Malaysia. Community service is not merely seen as the implementation of a work programme and the fulfilment of academic obligations, but also as a learning process to understand the community, adapt to a new environment, and cultivate humility and a sense of responsibility. Joint activities with PCINU Malaysia also broaden students’ understanding of Islamic and NU practices within Indonesian communities abroad. This is in line with the spirit of the International Collaborative Community Service Programme, which is not only focused on community service but also on enhancing students’ global perspective, institutional networks and cross-cultural experiences.Through these activities, it is hoped that students will be able to embody Islamic and NU values, as well as a spirit of service, in every stage of the Community Service Programme (KKN). It is also hoped that the experience gained whilst in Malaysia will equip students to continue developing their academic, social and leadership skills, whilst making a positive contribution to society.
