IAINU Tuban and UMNU Kebumen Community Service Students Introduce Educational Mini Garden Activities to Migrant Children in Malaysia

International Community Service Programme students from IAINU Tuban and UMNU Kebumen carried out their third work programme with the theme ‘Educational Mini Garden’, which taught how to grow vegetables using recycled materials. This planting activity is a form of contribution by International Community Service Programme students in environmental education, which began with an introduction to cocopeat as a soil substitute. This activity was attended by all students at SB SIKL. In addition to cocopeat, students from the IANU Tuban and UMNU Kebumen International Community Service Program also taught the children of SB SIKL how to make pots from recycled materials using old bottles and how to properly care for plants. The children were very enthusiastic because this was their first experience learning about cocopeat as a soil substitute and how to grow vegetables properly. “We are very happy to introduce them to environmental awareness, which can increase their knowledge through basic gardening skills that are easy to apply at home and in the school environment”, said Riswanda Arneta Pratiwi, an international community service student from IAINU Tuban. Through this activity, the International Community Service Programme students hope that the children of SB SIKL will adopt the habit of caring for plants and play a role in creating a green and healthy environment.
